Lisl Vaillant, director

Ms. Vaillant brings to BSA her passion, dedication and professional experience, providing a strong traditional base of instruction essential for the early years of ballet training. Using a syllabus that is based on the Balanchine technique, students are encouraged to learn the importance of process and quality of work while improving their coordination, imagination and strength.

Ms. Vaillant received her ballet training at the School of American Ballet in New York City. Upon graduation she joined the Pennsylvania Ballet where she began her professional career. Quickly attaining Soloist status, Ms. Vaillant's repertoire consisted mostly of the Balanchine ballets, and the traditional classical ballets, including Giselle, La Sylphide, Romeo and Juliet, Swan Lake, Les Sylphide, The Nutcracker, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Coppelia. Highlighting her performing career by dancing in the cast of Pacific Northwest Balletís film production of "The Nutcracker", Ms. Vaillant had the honor of dancing as a guest artist with "The Stars of American Ballet Theatre" and "Stars of the New York City Ballet". She completed her performing career with dancing on the national tour of "The Phantom of the Opera" as a member of the ballet chorus and understudy to the principle role of "Meg Giry".

Lislís former teaching credits include faculty member at Ballet Austin and the Rock School of Ballet, program recruiter for Eliot Feld New School of Ballet in NYC, master class teacher at Steps on Broadway in NYC, Raleigh School of Ballet in North Carolina, Rutgers University in New Jersey, Westside School of Ballet in Santa Monica, and Longmont Dance Theater in Colorado. In addition to her duties at her Academy, Lisl currently teaches ballet to Upper School students at St. Andrews Episcopal School and is Guest Faculty member at the University of Texas- Musical Theatre Summer Workshop.

Most recently Ms. Vaillant has choreographed and directed full length youth ballet productions of The Firebird, Peter and the Wolf, The Ugly Duckling, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake and Les Sylphide. She will be presenting her ninth annual production of her highly acclaimed The Nutcracker in December 2016.


Roxy Young-Grein, instructor   

Roxy is a graduate of Ballet Austin. As a young dancer Roxy had the distinct honor of being invited to attend two summer intensives with the prestigious American Ballet Theatre. Having earned her Montessori certification through the Montessori Education Center of the Rockies, she currently holds the position of lead Primary Teacher at Cedars Montessori. In addition, Roxy is a certified instructor of the Pilates method.

Roxy brings to Ballet Southwest Academy a unique fusion of her love and experience in dance, and her expertise in teaching young children through her application of the Montessori method.
